After Jacksonville scratched and clawed its way to a 5-5 tie with two runs in the top of the fifth, top-seeded Springfield erupted for 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game early, beating the Crimsons 15-5 in a regional championship game at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield on Tuesday. Sturgis High School held its annual “Senior Honors Ceremony” May 6.
Principal Nick Herblet opened the ceremony by introducing the school’s 10 senior class representatives, as well as Tremaine Brown, the evening’s class speaker.
One of the largest senior honors this year was a $10,000 scholarship was awarded to Brenda Garcia Lopez, provided by Level Data in Kalamazoo. Lopez plans to attend Glen Oaks Community College before transferring to a four-year university.
Level Data is an education software development company that helps school districts nationwide maximize data management and reporting needs.
“(The) Sturgis school district was our very first customer well over a decade ago,” said Matt Betts, president of Level Data. “When we looked at a way to say thank you and honor that first commitment from Sturgis (Public) Schools all those years ago that’s led to our achievements, we decided to sponsor this scholarship in 2021.
