Winning margin was less than 1,000 in at least 30 Assembly constituencies in the five States that went to polls
A loss in an election deeply hurts a candidate if the margin of defeat is very narrow. It hurts even more if the margin of defeat is less than that of NOTA (none of the above) votes polled in that particular election.
The winning margin was below 1,000 in at least 30 assembly constituencies in the five States in the recently concluded assembly elections.
Of them, at least 21 winning candidates in these constituencies would have thanked NOTA for their win as their victory margin was less than that of NOTA votes polled. In seven of these constituencies BJP candidates won, followed by DMK in four, and the Congress and TMC in three each.
The process will take place in 31 halls at six centres
After a nearly month-long wait since Puducherry voted under President’s rule on April 6, the spotlight has zoomed in on a sprawling campus in the city where the votes will be counted amid tight security on Sunday.
The process will involve accounting for an estimated 8.20 lakh votes polled across 30 Assembly constituencies after the Union Territory, with 10.04 lakh voters, registered a turnout of 81.69%. The battle for the 30-seat House (which also has three nominated members) is essentially between the Congress-led alliance comprising the DMK, the Left parties and the VCK, and the NDA consisting of the AINRC, the BJP, the AIADMK and the PMK. The 324 candidates in the fray include nominees of the AMMK, the NTK and the MNM and Independents.

New Delhi, April 5 : There has been a growth of 17 per cent in the assets of 21 re-contesting MLAs, including independents, fielded by various political parties in the Puducherry Assembly elections between 2016 and 2021 an average increase of 1.61 crore.
The Puducherry Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) shared this data after analysing the self-sworn affidavits of these 21 re-contesting MLAs taking part in the the Puducherry Assembly Election 2021. The average assets of these 21 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties including independents in 2016 was Rs 9.56 crore. The average assets of these MLAs in 2021 is now Rs 11.17 crores. The average asset growth for these MLAs, between the Puducherry Assembly Elections of 2016 and 2021, is Rs 1.61 c
