Lake Macquarie City Council Local performance and arts advocate Ms Mercia Buck OAM has been nominated for Lake Macquarie Freeman of the City for her lifetime of dedication and service to performing arts. Ms Buck has been nominated to be recognised as Freeman of the City as part of a Mayoral Minute proposed for Council’s Ordinary Meeting on Monday 26 July 2021. Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Fraser said that the Award of Freeman of the City recognises people who have given an immense amount of energy and exceptional service to our community. “We are so fortunate to have such a passionate and committed community where people give so much to the benefit of our City and lifestyle. Mercia Buck OAM is one of these people – a passionate and tireless advocate for people in Lake Macquarie, particularly in her support of performing arts,” Cr Fraser said.

Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock inspected the foreshore and wetland rehabilitation site at Swansea today, after $240,000 was awarded to Lake Macquarie City Council to carry out the work as part of the NSW Government’s Coastal and Estuary Grants Program. “I’m pleased with the works completed so far at Swansea foreshore and to see, first-hand, the 80-metre long protective rock wall, revegetation and saltmarsh rehabilitation,” Mrs Hancock said. “Through the Coastal and Estuary Program, the NSW Government is funding half of this exciting Lake Macquarie City Council project.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser said the revitalisation of the foreshore will help to connect the main streets of Toronto to the lake’s foreshore while providing opportunities for people to get outdoors and enjoy an active lakeside lifestyle. “The Master Plan provides the blueprint for a significant transformation of the Toronto foreshore into an attractive and vibrant recreational destination,” Cr Fraser said.
