McDONOUGH â Henry County officials are hopeful they can reach an intergovernmental agreement with the four cities in the county in order to collect the maximum Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Transportation allowed.
The county has developed a transportation project list and is looking to place a TSPLOST referendum on the ballot in November. A majority of commissioners said Tuesday they approve of the project list, although one said he would not support it.
The county faces two possible scenarios for TSPLOST collections. If an intergovernmental agreement with a majority of the cities â including the most populous, Stockbridge and McDonough â is in place, the county and cities will be able to collect the maximum 1% sales tax over five years. If unable to reach that agreement, the collection rate would drop to .75%.

STOCKBRIDGE â Speer Road will continue to be closed to traffic while repairs are made to the stormwater pipes underneath the roadway. Currently, the decades old metal pipes are being replaced with concrete culverts, including a three-barrel culvert in the center of the road for stormwater control.
Earlier it was discovered that the metal pipes were in need of replacement and in danger of failing under the roadway. The road was closed in early January, but work has been delayed due to weather and necessary utility relocation.
âMetal pipes eventually rust, so we are replacing with concrete, said SPLOST Transportation Director Roque Romero. âDuring an inspection, one of the pipes was discovered to be in poor shape, indicating the need to replace all of the older pipes.â
