Temple motorcycle club beats the heat at Cove ice cream shop

A local motorcycle group was one step ahead of the heat Sunday with a scoop of ice cream in hand. Members of the Horny Toad HOG Chapter, headquartered in Temple, gathered at Waffle Cone at 508 Cove Terrace Shopping Center in Copperas Cove for an ice cream social. Riders took off around 3:40 p.m. Sunday and got their frozen treats at the local shop. Don Toscano, member of the HOG Chapter, said the event a chance for club members to gather. “We meet for ice cream maybe three to four times a year,” Toscano said. “Members get a patch for coming. They’ll get a scoop added to their patch.”

It’s one of many new businesses the area is seeing. The shop at 6520 W. Adams Ave. — across the street from a Starbucks and near the entrance to Holy Trinity High School — will be ready to open in a few weeks, workers at the site said. It is one of two Temple locations — the other at 201 N. General Bruce Drive near West Adams and Interstate 35 — the Oregon-based coffee chain will open within the next several months. “We’re so excited for our two upcoming shops in Temple,” company spokesperson Rilynn Davis told the Telegram. Dutch Bros Coffee is a mostly drive-thru shop that serves coffee, smoothies, freezes, teas, energy drinks and nitrogen-infused cold brew coffee. Walk-up customers also are welcome.

Officials call for state corrective action after latest tractor-trailer bridge strike in Glenville | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 GLENVILLE – After about 100 tractor-trailer strikes and turnarounds in the Canadian Pacific Railroad bridge’s existence on Glenridge Road, local officials are calling for the state and the rail company to take action in the wake of this week’s latest accident. Town Supervisor Christopher Koetzle and the local legislative delegation said they want the state to close the underpass to truck traffic and raise the 10-foot, 11-inch bridge to a height that would be safer, as determined by traffic engineers. All of the roads involved are owned by the state and county and would require state Department of Transportation  involvement to coordinate and execute a solution, officials said.
