Holiday traffic slows southbound I-35 through Temple

Heavy Fourth of July traffic has slowed southbound Interstate 35 in Temple and Belton Friday afternoon. Motorists are seeing slow highway traffic south of West Adams Avenue in Temple, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. The TxDOT traffic map showed poor conditions on southbound I-35 in Temple and moderate conditions south through Belton to the Interstate 14 interchange. South of Belton, southbound traffic is flowing until Round Rock in the Austin area, TxDOT said. Northbound I-35 traffic is better with moderate conditions north of Salado to south of South Loop 363 in Temple. Temple-area businesses are seeing increase holiday travelers as well.

2 Dutch Bros Coffee shops to be built in Temple

Dutch Bros Coffee plans to open two Temple shops by early next year. The Oregon-based coffee chain will open sites at 6520 W. Adams Ave. and another at 201 N. General Bruce Drive off Interstate 35 near Temple High School, 415 N. 31st St. “We’re so excited for our two upcoming shops in Temple,” company spokesperson Rilynn Davis said in an email. “We’ve started construction at 6520 W. Adams Ave. (in) Temple, TX, and are still in the planning process on North General (Bruce) Drive.” The city of Temple said in a tweet Thursday that Dutch Bros will build at the site of a former Long John Silver’s restaurant on North General Bruce Drive.

Abilene police arrest woman who hid drugs in her body

Abilene police arrested a woman on drug charges after finding methamphetamine in a plastic bag in her vehicle s center console, inside a folded piece of foil and inside the woman s body, according to reports released Wednesday. During traffic stop at the intersection of South 14th and South Willis streets early Wednesday morning, a K9 officer alerted on the vehicle, police said. Police found a clear, plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance and later found the foil, according to reports. During her conversation with police, the woman reportedly told police she had a plastic bag containing ice inside a body cavity.
