Professor Alexander Gillespie has commented on issues from Covid to cannabis law reform.
Commentary on topics from Covid-19 to terrorism and cannabis laws has earned a Waikato professor a $50,000 prize. University of Waikato law professor Alexander Gillespie was one of two winners of the 2021 Critic and Conscience of Society Award. The second winner of the Gama Foundation award was University of Auckland Associate Professor Siouxsie Wiles, an infectious disease expert and microbiologist well known for her commentary on Covid. When Gillespie was commenting on Covid, he explained “why difficult decisions were justifiable” and aimed to keep the law and policy at the forefront.
