AMHERST, Mass. – At today’s Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, UMass ice hockey
Coach Greg Carvel shared with graduates some of his maxims for success with the 2021 national champion men’s hockey team, including daring to make bold decisions, developing a strong identity and treating others with dignity and respect.
Carvel delivered the keynote commencement address at four smaller, socially distanced commencement ceremonies for a total of 6,400 enthusiastic graduates who received their bachelor’s degrees in front of family and friends at Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium under sunny skies.

AMHERST â With nearly empty stands and participants seated in folding chairs 6 feet apart, the University of Massachusetts Amherst feted 6,500 graduate and undergraduate students in five different ceremonies Thursday and Friday.
The ceremonies at McGuirk Stadium provided a glimpse of normalcy, a year after UMass and other universities were forced to postpone live commencements because of COVID-19 precautions.
On Friday, speaking to students from the colleges of education, humanities and fine arts, and social and behavioral sciences, UMass Chancellor Kumble R. Subbaswamy praised their strength while coping with the hardships of the past year.

AMHERST For Allison Lepine, it was all about efficiency. The path for Joanna Buoniconti was one of advocacy.
In their own ways, each graduating senior made their mark at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. For Lepine, of Chicopee, and Buoniconti, of West Springfield, it’s now time to apply those leadership skills to society at large.
To say they are ready and eager would be an understatement. They will be among 10 members of the UMass graduating class to be honored as “21st Century Leaders” at Friday’s commencement.

At 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, a graduate commencement ceremony took place at Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium on campus to honor master’s and doctoral degree recipients. Remarks were offered by Chancellor Subbaswamy, Graduate School Dean Jacqueline Urla and two student speakers.
The full slate of undergraduate ceremonies will be held as follows:
9 a.m. – Isenberg School of Management, College of Nursing and College of Information and Computer Sciences
Noon – College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, College of Humanities and Fine Arts and College of Education
