Tuesday, 02 February, 2021, 08 : 00 AM [IST] Ashwani Maindola, New Delhi Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced expansion of the scope of Operation Greens to boost export of agricultural commodities. She said that to boost value addition in agriculture and allied products and their exports, the scope of ‘Operation Greens Scheme’ that is presently applicable to tomatoes, onions, and potatoes, will be enlarged to include 22 perishable products. Also, she announced Agricultural Infrastructure and Development Cess aimed at improving infrastructure for the agriculture sector. However, she stressed that this will not lead to an additional burden on the consumers. During the post-Budget interaction with the media, the FM said basic Customs Duty rates have been reduced on most items where AIDC is being imposed, so as to not put a burden on the end consumer. She added that this would ensure enhanced remuneration for the farmers.
