Workers protest delay in filling of Pesco posts - Newspaper

KOHAT: Hundreds of workers of the Wapda hydroelectric labour union, Kohat chapter, held a protest demonstration here on Tuesday against delay in filling of vacancies in the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco). Speaking on the occasion, the union’s office-bearers said 50 per cent of the Pesco’s technical staff was going to retire soon. They feared that delay in filling vacancies would create serious performance issues in the company. They alleged that the reason behind increasing accidents involving Pesco staffers was appointment of untrained people made on political grounds. Separately, elders of Sorgul village have demanded immediate replacement of a worn-out electricity line passing through the village as it posed danger to lives of residents.

AFP/File KOHAT: The Jungle Khel police foiled a smuggling bid by recovering an arms cache from a pick-up vehicle and arresting a carrier on the Peshawar Bypass here on Thursday. The police were checking vehicles coming from Darra Adamkhel whey they stopped a suspicious vehicle. During search, they found two Kalashnikovs, 72 pistols and 8,800 cartridges hidden in secret cavities of the vehicle. They arrested the smuggler identified as Maazullah of Zarghun tribe of Darra. He was carrying the weapons to Dera Ismail Khan. ECONOMIC ZONE: The office-bearers of the Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) have flayed the provincial government for not announcing setting up of an economic zone in the small industrial estate in Kohat under its new industrial policy.

Kohat mosques, imambargahs to be put on solar power - Newspaper

KOHAT: Adviser to the chief minister on information technology Zaiaullah Bangash announced on Wednesday that 80 mosques and imambargahs in Kohatwould be put on solar power at a cost of Rs30.2 million. Speaking at a function to distribute solar plates and batteries among 12 mosques in Urban- 1 and city mosques, he said subsequent to the solarisation of 35 mosques in Urban-5 and Jungle Khel localities, solar plates had been distributed among 12 mosques in PK-82. He said worship places would now get uninterrupted power supply.
