A note from the editor

A note from the editor Sharon Fisher You know, when we scheduled a Focus section on government for this week, the idea was that it would be a great time to summarize the session, since of course by now the Legislature would have adjourned sine die.  LOL. As if.  That said, there was still plenty to write about, ranging from our intrepid reporter Catie Clark’s Governor’s extraordinary second appearance direct to Idaho voters flanked by all the living Idaho former governors (and I bet Cecil Andrus would have been there if we could) explaining why he was vetoing the two bills the Legislature had passed that were intended to limit governors’ emergency powers. (Catie also wrote about what the two bills were and how they were different.)

A note from the editor  Sharon Fisher The Legislature is back in town and one of the items they still need to tackle in the next two weeks or so is Gov. Brad Little’s request for transportation funding. We were fortunate to score a one-on-one with the Governor, conducted by our intrepid staff writer Catie Clark, with some in-depth information on his views on this important legislation. It will be interesting to see how the Legislature responds, and, if the Governor’s plan to peel off general fund dollars for transportation works, what sort of ramifications this will have for the future.

A note from the editor

A note from the editor By: Sharon Fisher March 12, 2021 Comments Off on A note from the editor Sharon Fisher This is the time of year when it seems like the Legislature will never manage to accomplish its work and the session will just last forever. Except this year, that might actually be true. Not only is the Legislature grappling with the usual batch of troublesome legislation such as attempts to reduce property taxes, which our intrepid reporter Catie Clark wrote about this week; limit the ability of the Governor, health districts, cities and counties to do things and fund transportation but the Legislature is also likely to have a big batch of money from the federal government to dole out.
