Nurses also plan to picket May 26 at Falmouth Hospital.
Nurses are taking the actions because Cape Cod Healthcare executives are refusing to negotiate a new contract with the Massachusetts Nurses Association that creates safer patient care conditions and values the dedication of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, the association said in an announcement Monday.
“Cape Cod Healthcare executives call us heroes in public and pass out candy as a thank you but are actually disrespecting the care nurses provide by not agreeing to basic patient safety improvements we are seeking as part of a fair contract,” Michelle Brum, a registered nurse and member of the association s bargaining committee at Cape Cod Hospital, said in the press release.

Cape Codders no longer need to make appointments to get their COVID-19 vaccines.
Vaccination sites across the Cape including Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis and Cape Cod Fairgrounds in East Falmouth are now offering shots to walk-ins during clinic hours.
The days when Cape Codders had to spend hours online trying to find an appointment have vanished with the winter’s chill.
“Walk-ins are available universally. It’s never been easier” to get a shot, state Sen. Julian Cyr, D-Truro, said Thursday morning during a briefing by the Cape Cod COVID-19 Response Task Force.
“Now we have ample supplies. You can sign up. You can walk in,” Cyr said.
