As of 8 p.m. today, Cleco has restored power to nearly 33,000 of the roughly 43,000 customers who lost power after a second winter storm hit Clecoâs service territory within the same week.
âWeâre making progress,â said James Lass, director of distribution and emergency management. âOur crews are patrolling lines and making repairs as safely and quickly as possible to restore power to our remaining customers.â
Clecoâs damage assessments indicate that power outages from the second winter storm were primarily due to the accumulation of ice.

The NYPD on Thursday identified the victim as Matthew English of Eltingville.
Police responded to a 911 call of a car crash on the 400 block of Englewood Avenue at about 12:25 p.m. on Jan. 7, according to a statement from the NYPD.
Responding officers found English unconscious and unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his 2020 Buick Encore. EMS responded and transported English to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.
He was pronounced dead on Sunday, according to the police statement.
Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that English was driving his Buick eastbound on Englewood Avenue. As the Buick approached the intersection of Quail Lane, English suffered an apparent medical episode, causing the vehicle to veer into the westbound lanes of traffic. The Buick collided with multiple unoccupied parked vehicles
