(WLOX) - It was a big day for Jackson County law enforcement and residents. After a year-long investigation in high-crime areas of the county between federal and local authorities, a lot of guns, drugs and eight people are now off the streets with two more to go. It isn’t the largest criminal bust in Jackson County, but this latest effort had a life of its own.

Inmate remains in critical condition after being beaten by another inmate in county jail Updated Apr 29, 2021; PASCAGOULA, Mississippi An Ocean Springs man jailed on a DUI charge was airlifted to a Mobile hospital after a fight with a career criminal in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said the fight took place in one of the jail dayrooms on Monday. Corrections officers responding to the situation found 47-year-old Donald Ratcliff of Ocean Springs unconscious. Medical personnel at the ADC treated Ratcliff before he was transported to Singing River Hospital and subsequently to University of South Alabama Medical Center, where he was still in critical condition as of Thursday.

Man arrested after armed robbery at St. Andrews store Updated 10:38 AM; JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. A 32-year-old man is in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center, charged with the armed robbery of a convenience store near the entrance to the St. Andrews community southeast of Ocean Springs. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Clark Oil station/store Friday morning. Hours later, Alfonzo Taylor was identified as the suspect after he was spotted at a Biloxi casino wearing the same clothing described in the robbery. Taylor was taken into custody later at his Ocean Springs home, with assistance from Ocean Springs and Biloxi police. He remains in the ADC under $250,000 bond.

Teen arrested for armed robbery of Big B’s in St. Martin Updated Apr 15, 2021; ST. MARTIN, Mississippi A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged as an adult for the March 31 armed robbery of Big B’s in the St. Martin community. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said Wednesday that Treyvontae Javaughn Livingston robbed the Big B’s store on north Washington Avenue in St. Martin at gunpoint on March 31. Livingston turned himself in Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday, he posted $20,000 bond and was released to his mother’s custody. No other information on the incident was released. Man with history of domestic abuse found shot to death in Jackson County Updated 2:01 PM; JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. A 29-year-old man with a lengthy criminal past, including multiple arrests for assaulting females, was found dead of a gunshot wound Friday night. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said deputies responded to a 911 call from the Virginia City community north of Ocean Springs about 10:30 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found Joseph Aaron Posey dead on the front porch of the residence. No charges have been filed as yet, Ezell said. The case remains under investigation, but appears to be domestic violence case, he said. The evidence will be turned over to a Jackson County Grand Jury for a determination.
