Jackson County jail reports first outbreak of COVID-19 Updated Jan 29, 2021; PASCAGOULA, Mississippi Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said this week the Jackson County Adult Detention Center was experiencing its first outbreak of COVID-19, with more than 5 percent of the inmates infected. Ezell said Wednesday 20 inmates had tested positive for the virus and were in isolation. He said each of the prisoners infected was experiencing minor symptoms. There are currently 20 inmates housed in the ADC. Through interlocal agreements, the ADC not only houses Jackson County prisoners, but those from the county’s four municipalities, as well. Ezell also said that as COVID-19 cases began to be diagnosed in Mississippi, new rules were put in place to limit contact between ADC personnel and inmates. Among the virus-prompted changes was a policy under which those arrested on misdemeanors would not be jailed, with the following exceptions:
