CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - The tri-county region is once again reporting a low number of new COVID-19 cases.
Combined, St. Lawrence, Lewis, and Jefferson counties are reporting 84 new cases of COVID-19.
For the past three days, the combined total has been less than 100, an indication that new cases in the north country are declining.
Jefferson County Legislature Chairman Scott Gray says this is a promising sign.
“People are more cautious, because they watch these numbers escalate. I think it scared a lot of people. People were at a heightened level of awareness to this whole situation,” Gray said.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Members of Watertown City Council are expected to vote Tuesday on setting a deadline that would end emergency medical response for the Watertown Fire Department next year unless Jefferson County provides whatâs called EMD service - a system to determine the severity of emergency medical calls.
âIn talking with some of the county legislatures, I donât see the county supporting this,â said Council Member Lisa Ruggiero.

LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - New York state is a step closer to getting COVID-19 vaccines into the arms of those who need it most. On Monday, that list of eligible people got bigger. But, there are some complications along the way.
Lewis County Manager Ryan Piche says the COVID-19 vaccine has the potential to be the “weapon to end the war.”
On Monday, more people became eligible to receive it.
“We know those 75 and above are most at risk. We know people that are in schools every day with students coming in and out, those folks are at risk. Police who are going in and out of homes and in and out of vehicles with the public, those people are at risk,” said Piche.
