PHILIPSBURG: -On July 6, 2021, His Excellency, Governor drs. Eugene B. Holiday and Mrs. Holiday were presented with a viewing of the locally produced movie “Atlantis: The Rebirth” by artist and producer Jonathan van Arneman. The Governor & Mrs. Holiday welcomed Producer Jonathan van Arneman, Head of the Department of Culture Ms. Clara Reyes, and NIA Director Ms. Arlene Halley at his office. They discussed the creator’s inspiration for the film, the preparation, and the challenges to realize the film. Developing its theme “Atlantis; The Rebirth”, the film takes you through several significant and defining historic events of our enslaved ancestors in the Caribbean. Governor Holiday applauds and congratulates Mr. Jonathan van Arneman and the entire cast for an impressive historic Caribbean documentary portrayed through dance and music.

WILLEMSTAD: - The “Monument for the Fallen Antillean” on Adriaan Laclé Boulevard in Oranjestad is the permanent memorial location on Aruba. This monument was erected in memory of all Antilleans who were killed by acts of war during the Second World War. The plaque contains 129 names of fallen Antilleans during the Second World War. Also in Willemstad, Curaçao, and Kralendijk, Bonaire, there is a monument with the same plaque. A number of dignitaries were present at the ceremony, such as Governor Boekhoudt and (outgoing) Prime Minister Wever-Croes. Defense was allowed to lead the commemoration ceremony on Aruba. Lieutenant van Haaren: “It was an honor to be able to lead the commemoration ceremony in Aruba with the Marine Corps. It is good to see that, despite the restrictive COVID measures, the commemoration was allowed to take place on May 4 in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. ”

Today, Tuesday, April 20, 2021, former Member of Parliament (MP) Omar Ottley was ceremoniously sworn in as Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (VSA) at the cabinet of His Excellency Governor Eugene Holiday. Minister Ottley was put forth by the United People’s (UP) party as candidate minister after Chair of Parliament Rolando Brison withdrew his name as candidate Minister of VSA. After discussions of the screening reports during the past week, it was agreed that Ottley would be sworn in as Minister of VSA as originally intended.
