The news that kids would be learning from home because of the rapidly-evolving pandemic, exactly one week after Eagle County’s first confirmed coronavirus infection, reverberated throughout the county’s households and businesses.
“I was hoping for the best, but also worrying, what if we have a huge outbreak?” Rewold-Thuon said of the uncertain weeks leading up to the district’s announcement, when the shadow of the pandemic spread and darkened, but had not yet upended life. “I do remember thinking, ‘This is not going to be good, I have a feeling,’” Rewold-Thuon said.

Eagle County Animal Services announced plans to cut back its operations to focus on animal control and patrol calls. The operation said it would partner with the local Humane Society for pet adoption and surrender services.

Eagle Valley High School students presented the musical “Hairspray.”
Eagle native son Brad Gamble broke the NCAA Division II heptathlon record. Gamble was a student/athlete at Chadron State College, attending for his final year of track and field eligibility.
Eagle County Charter Academy, Eagle Valley Elementary School and Homestake Peak School sent quarantine notices Thursday after learning of COVID-19 infections, Eagle County Schools said.
The positive case at Eagle County Charter Academy was last in school Wednesday, and two cohorts of students will quarantine.
At Eagle Valley Elementary School, the positive case was last in school Feb. 5. Eleven students and staff member have been directed to quarantine.
The positive case at Homestake Peak School was last in school Monday. Eighteen students will quarantine, with another 21 students transitioning to remote learning for Friday. All students will return to in-person learning Monday, Feb. 22 following the February break.

There’s been a positive case of COVID-19 at Eagle Valley Elementary School. In all, 13 students and one staff member have gone into quarantine.
The Eagle County School District announced Friday that Eagle Valley Elementary School sent COVID-19 notifications to their community on Thursday evening after Eagle County Public Health informed school officials of a student presumed to be positive for COVID-19.
The student was last in school Tuesday, Dec. 15. Contact tracing determined that those in close contact with the student should quarantine. Those needing to quarantine were contacted directly and provided with quarantine orders from Public Health. In all, 13 students and one staff member will quarantine.
