SANTA FE, N.M. The Santa Fe school board on Thursday named the six finalists for superintendent to replace Veronica Garcia, who announced her retirement in March.
Four of the six finalists currently work for Santa Fe schools, all of whom currently hold top positions at the district.
That includes Hilario Chavez, associate superintendent of athletics, activities and school support; Vanessa Romero, associate superintendent of instruction and school support; Kristy Janda Wagner, deputy superintendent for operations and school support; and Julie Lucero, executive director of exceptional student services.
Also making the finalist list is a top official from New Mexico’s largest school district. Albuquerque Public Schools Chief Operating Officer Gabriella Blakey stated in her letter that her experience managing dozens of schools in Albuquerque has prepared her for a higher leadership role.
Silver Schools’ Superintendent Search - Deming’s Parker finds parents, community are key to success
Editor’s note: This is the final profile of the four candidates for the next superintendent of the Silver Consolidated Schools.
According to Fredrick W. Parker, a finalist for the position of Silver Schools superintendent, the elements of developing and improving instruction have been his primary focus through a 23-year career in education. But he is quick to add that he has worked especially hard to form and “interweave partnerships with all departments in a school district” to achieve greater positive results.
“It’s easy for departments to operate separately a whole other thing to achieve symbiosis” among them, he said.
