SANTA FE, N.M. The Santa Fe school board on Thursday named the six finalists for superintendent to replace Veronica Garcia, who announced her retirement in March.
Four of the six finalists currently work for Santa Fe schools, all of whom currently hold top positions at the district.
That includes Hilario Chavez, associate superintendent of athletics, activities and school support; Vanessa Romero, associate superintendent of instruction and school support; Kristy Janda Wagner, deputy superintendent for operations and school support; and Julie Lucero, executive director of exceptional student services.
Also making the finalist list is a top official from New Mexico’s largest school district. Albuquerque Public Schools Chief Operating Officer Gabriella Blakey stated in her letter that her experience managing dozens of schools in Albuquerque has prepared her for a higher leadership role.
