In March, the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations announced the departure of Tourism Director Karen Bevans from the Belize Tourism Board. Bevans had a lucrative one point two million-dollar five-year contract which was otherwise considered ironclad. The B.T.B. has been quiet on the details of the separation, although it was confirmed that an investigation into the misuse of pension fund was underway. In the interim, B.T.B. Chairman Evan Tillett has been named acting Tourism Director. But is there conflict since Tillett is now answerable to himself? Here’s how Tourism C.E.O. B.T.B. Issues Official Release on Termination of Karen Bevans
Today, the Belize Tourism Board issued a very sparse statement confirming what News Five first reported on Friday: Tourism Director Karen Bevans no longer holds the post. Following a meeting of the B.T.B. Board of Directors, a unanimous decision was taken on March twelfth that the “time had come to part ways with Misses Bevans.” The release ends by saying that current chairman, Evan Tillett, will take on the management and leadership responsibilities of the B.T.B. The release, however, does not explain the grounds for the termination. As viewers recall, an investigation was conducted into what if any role the now former tourism director and other former members of the Board of Trustees played in the misuse of the B.T.B.
