HARIPUR: A teenage boy drowned in Haro River near Khanpur Dam, police said here on Saturday.
The police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that some youngsters were bathing in the water accumulated near Tarnava Bridge because of usual leakage from the Khanpur Dam’s spillways, when one of them slipped into river and drowned.
The rescue workers fished out the body and shifted it to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Khanpur. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shahzad, 17, a resident of Rawalpindi.
Separately, six persons, including three women, were injured in two road accidents in different parts of the city on Saturday.
TAXILA: A court in Hassanabdal sentenced a man to death in a murder case.The additional sessions court also fined Tariq Mehmood Rs0.5 million after he was found guilty of murdering Mohammad Nazakat and injuring Farman Ali in Pathargarh village in the limits of Hassanabdal police over a land dispute on April 4, 2014.
Meanwhile, three persons were killed and two others injured in separate incidents in the limits of Attock and Taxila police on Sunday.
Police said bodies of two persons were recovered from a property dealing office located near Teenmela Chowk in Attock. Later, they were identified as 55-year-old Malik Aabid and Ishtiaque, 41, both property dealers by profession. Police said the bodies had no injury or bullet marks and during preliminary medical examination it was found that their death was caused by consuming poisonous food or drink.

ISLAMABAD: While the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are facing shortage of water, a small joint project to construct Chirrah Dam with a capacity of 15 million gallon daily (mgd) is still a pipe dream.
The proposed dam already approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) is to be built jointly by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the government of Punjab.
According to the initial PC-I, the cost of the project was Rs5.30 billion with a four-year completion time. As the work could not be started, the cost has now increased manifold.
