Joe Musgrove came into the season viewed by many as a breakout candidate, and it’s easy to see why. The 28-year-old Pirate-turned-Padre possesses plus stuff, and the change of scenery from Pittsburgh to his hometown of San Diego, no less portends more success…. particularly in the won-loss column. Musgrove went a paltry 1-5 with the N.L. Central cellar-dwellers in 2020, while his new club is poised to win, per our projections, 94 games in the current campaign.
By and large, the breakout has already happened, and not solely because the 6-foot-5, 235-pound right-hander hurled the year’s first no-hitter on Friday night. His 2020 peripherals were those of a pitcher who’d turned the corner. With the caveat that it was a pandemic-shortened season, Mugrove set career-bests in ERA, FIP, and strikeout rate, and more importantly, he did so with improved pitch profiles. Per StatCast, the spin and movement of his offerings were better than they’d ever been.

When opening up Twitter to find the lineups to put in this here gamethread, I saw a tweet from Alec Lewis quoting Nick Kappel about the Kansas City Royals’ relatively historical incompetency against the Chicago White Sox of late. Last year, the Royals went 1-9 against the Pale Hose, and are on the verge of something bad after last game’s loss:
From the great @NickKappel: Today the Royals are looking to avoid losing seven straight to the Chicago White Sox for the first time since Sept. 26, 2007-July 9, 2008. Alec Lewis (@alec lewis) April 11, 2021

The former Kansas City Royal second baseman allegedly committed the assault on March 26 in Scottsdale, Arizona, at around 10.30pm
Grudzielanek, 50, is listed as the offender in docs while his alleged victim is described as a 12-year-old boy, TMZ reports
Details surrounding the incident are unclear, a source familiar with the case said that the incident stemmed from a physical altercation
While with the Royals in 2006, Grudzielanek - who also played shortstop in his career - won the Gold Glove in 2006

Understanding Limbaugh’s impact requires a sense for what preceded him. The Federal Communication Commission’s Fairness Doctrine, introduced in 1949, mandated that commercial broadcast outlets give a platform for all sides of a political controversy. Of course this made sure that there was little actual controversy on the air. To be sure there were still some kooks ranting their bizarro theories and conspiracies. Thank goodness those days are past, right? But I digress.
When the regulation was abolished in the late 1980’s (President Reagan vetoed a bill that would have made the regulation into law), commercial radio was wide open for “market segmentation.” Limbaugh stepped up, artfully speaking to a particular subset of the American population, fueling their beliefs, and ignoring those whose viewpoints didn’t align.
