PHS seniors shine directing one-act plays

Arianne Bauer hung on every word as she sat at the end of the front row of seats during the Longhorn Theatre Company’s 2021 edition of its annual Senior-Directed One-Act Plays on Thursday night, May 6. The Payson High School senior couldn’t relax as she internally acted out every line during the premiere of the one-act play she directed “The Fourth Wall,” in the PHS Studio Theatre. She mouthed the lines and gestured to actors. Bauer also took part, playing the role of an audience member berated by a cast member after her cellphone rang multiple times. The crowd of 57 spectators thought they were witnessing an actual spur-of-the-moment outburst by an actor directed at a disruptive member of the audience.

Food Bank Seeks Monetary Donations to Purchase Food for Summer

SWEETWATER COUNTY While the Food Bank of Sweetwater County may not need any food donations right now, they are planning ahead and asking for monetary donations to help out with the summer months. Food Bank of Sweetwater County Executive Director Kathy Siler said currently the food banks have been able to keep up with the demand and they still have food. However, Siler recently found out the local 2021 Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive has been postponed until next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Advertisement - Story continues below. Siler said it was also postponed in 2020 so for the past two years the food bank has had to do without their large donation. According to Siler, the last food drive the letter carriers completed was in 2019. That food drive alone brought in more than 14,200 pounds of food. This was a food drive the food bank had come to rely on.
