Updated: Share Article AAA Every day between 10 a.m. and noon, Lakshmi Ragunath’s calendar is blocked for what she calls ‘Happiness Calls’. A member of Dignity Foundation, 70-year-old Lakshmi is a volunteer with the helpline programme that calls upon ‘home-alone’ senior citizens who want to talk to somebody. Lakshmi calls a senior citizen from the list provided to her by the Foundation. She has also drawn up her own list of seniors who need such help. “I have at least one caller a day. There are days when more than two would call. The average duration of these calls lies somewhere between 15 minutes and an hour,” says Lakshmi, who has been engaged in this service for many years now.

His initiative is helping the patient even in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Shaikh who runs Unity and Dignity Foundation became hero in Malad. Many persons including Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Sudha Ramen praised him and his team and termed them real heroes.

Shahnawaz Shaikh sold his SUV last year to start an oxygen supply scheme which today continues to save lives amid the coronavirus pandemic.  Mr Shaikh has become a hero in the narrow lanes of Malvani in Malad with his Unity & Dignity Foundation - and his initiative is being widely praised on social media as well. His story gained attention last year after he sold his Ford Endeavour and used the money to buy oxygen cylinders for those in need.

Stollwood to become new home of Yolo Adult Day Health Center Support Local Journalism A scene of much heartbreak and tragedy early in the COVID-19 pandemic, the Stollwood Convalescent Hospital in Woodland will be given new life serving the county’s older residents later this year. Back in April, the pandemic hit the facility located on the grounds of St. John’s Retirement Village hard, taking 17 lives. A decision was made later in the summer to permanently close the convalescent hospital. But from that loss came opportunity. The Yolo Adult Day Health Center (also located in Woodland) has long been looking for a new home to accommodate the ever growing demand for its services, serve the many families languishing on a wait list and become financially sustainable.
