Letter: Support our youths in education
I am a longtime resident of Davis with two daughters attending Davis public schools. Like many others, I juggle a full-time job while caring for my family, squeezing in time to volunteer and support causes that I believe to be important and meaningful. For me, education and the well-being of all students are on the top of that list.
In 2017, I joined the all-volunteer Davis Schools Foundation board because I was impressed by the nonprofit organization’s work to fund many important programs and services at every school site in the district, including instructional aides and counselors.
Letter: Bretton Woods
Measure L ballot language for the West Davis Active Adult Community (Bretton Woods) read as follows: (the city needs) “an adequate housing supply to meet internal city needs … 90% of the home sales will be limited to Davis-connected buyers.”
The city itself said this of the project: “The project proponent has elected to develop a ‘Davis-Based Buyers Program’ that would restrict sale of 90% of the for-sale residential units to households that include a Davis resident, family of a Davis resident, Davis employee, student or graduate of Davis schools, or similar connection. The Development Agreement requires the developer to develop requirements and procedures for the program that ensure that it is consistent with all applicable fair housing laws. The developer is still in the process of preparing program criteria, which must be submitted to the city prior to the issuance of any building permits for the project.”
Stollwood to become new home of Yolo Adult Day Health Center

A scene of much heartbreak and tragedy early in the COVID-19 pandemic, the Stollwood Convalescent Hospital in Woodland will be given new life serving the county’s older residents later this year.
Back in April, the pandemic hit the facility located on the grounds of St. John’s Retirement Village hard, taking 17 lives. A decision was made later in the summer to permanently close the convalescent hospital.
But from that loss came opportunity.
The Yolo Adult Day Health Center (also located in Woodland) has long been looking for a new home to accommodate the ever growing demand for its services, serve the many families languishing on a wait list and become financially sustainable.
