The Plumas County Sheriff s Office is reporting on Facebook that officials have downgraded evacuation orders for residents living south of Highway 70 between Beckwourth-Genesee Road and the Plumas/Lassen County line. They are asking residents to be prepared to leave.
All other evacuations remain in place for the Beckwourth Complex Fire. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office personnel have contacted all residents in the Rancho Haven and North Red Rock area and advised them of the evacuation. Deputies will remain in the areas through the night.
The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District is reporting on Twitter that the evacuation center at Hug High school is closed because of no attendance. If you need help, contact the America Red Cross at 800-733-2767.
Update:
The district said on Wednesday afternoon summer school hours could be extended beyond four hours because of additional funding. The district did not know yet how many hours but said it likely would be more than four, as district officials had previously reported.
The Washoe County School District will offer free summer school for all students Tuesday through Thursday for four weeks this summer.
The district is expected to release details in a call and email to parents this week. It has not yet released information about how to register or how long the school day will be. Originally the plan was for a four-hour school day but the district may get additional funding to add hours.
Update 10:30 p.m.: The Washoe County School District made fewer cuts to programs for gifted programs than was first proposed earlier this year.
The school board voted to keep three school-within-a-school programs for children identified as gifted. Programs will remain at Caughlin Ranch, Roy Gomm and Hunsberger elementary schools through the next school year. The district had first proposed reducing the program to just one school.
The school board also voted to direct staff to come up with options for a regional approach to locations for the 2022-23 school year.
The school board also voted to unanimously keep four gifted programs at middle schools after proposing to reduce the locations to three. Programs at Pine, Sky Ranch and Swope will remain and the district will develop a pilot program for gifted students at Clayton Middle School.
