Holy Pączki! A Detroit Distillery s pączki-flavored vodka sold out in about 20 minutes online Monday. BUT there s still hope! They say that it s being sold at liquor stores across the state - including Grand Rapids.
Detroit City Distillery creates small batch artisanal whiskey, gin, and vodka using local ingredients. Each year, Steve Orzechowski, their resident distiller of Polish descent, fires up the still to make a special treat for Fat Tuesday: Pączki Day Vodka. To make it, Detroit City Distillery procures Hamtramck s finest raspberry pączki from New Palace Bakery and distills them in 100% potato vodka straight from Poland.

CALUMET–Robert “Bob” Ross Harter, 91, a resident of 8th Street in Calumet, passed away on Christmas Day at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium following a short illness.
He was born on January 27, 1929, in Calumet, a son of the late Hyacinth (Babe) and Flora Harter.
Bob graduated from Sacred Heart High School.
On June 25, 1949, he married the former Elizabeth “Bette” Tarvis in St. Johns Church in Calumet and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2015.
His early career was working for his father at Harter’s Party Store and the village of Calumet. He then went on to work for the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company. After that he spent a few years working for Clairmont Trucking in Escanaba. Then he left the Copper Country for a short time to work in Oklahoma for Transcon Trucking. He returned to Calumet to take over the Pontiac dealership (Harter Pontiac Buick) which he ran for 33 years.
Tens of thousands of dollars were infused into the downtown economies of Cadillac and Lake City within the course of a couple hours last week.
Businesses in both cities participated in the âOur Townâ program created by Consumers Energy that matched the amount that customers spent on gift vouchers to be reimbursed at those businesses.
In the Our Town program, Consumers Energy allocated $500,000 to 55 communities throughout Michigan to be used as a dollar-for-dollar match for gift cards people buy through local Chambers of Commerce and downtown organizations, doubling the amount they can spend in downtowns across the state.
In Cadillac, Consumers Energy matched $12,000 worth of vouchers and in Lake City, the utility company matched $6,500 worth of vouchers â bringing the combined total going to local businesses in this area to $37,000.
Sentencing postponed for man charged with breaking Jack Daniel statue, stealing liquor in Hamilton

This statue of Jack Daniel was damaged in an alleged property damage incident Sept. 13 at Noonan s Party Store in Hamilton. Jacob Shane Wright, 26, of the 2000 block of Princeton Road, was indicted on three counts of vandalism, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and attempted petty theft. He will be sentenced at 1 p.m. Jan. 11, according to court records.

HAMILTON, Ohio â A Hamilton man will have to wait until next year to learn his fate after he admitted guilt in an act of vandalism that destroyed a statue of Jack Daniel and hundreds of bottles of alcohol at a Main Street business.
