Apr 30, 2021 SARASOTA, Fla. Kevin James Roberts, 61, of Sarasota. formerly of Calumet, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at his home on Friday, April 16, 2021. Kevin was born on February 21, 1960, to James and Karen (Aho) Roberts in Calumet. He attended the Calumet schools and graduated in 1978 from Calumet High School. Kevin worked as a cook at various local restaurants and then headed west with friends, working at an oil refinery in Wyoming. Returning from Wyoming, he was a chef at several Midwest restaurants before moving to Florida where he met the love of his life, Melissa (Missy) Ireland. They were married on April 4, 2004 – 4/4/04. In 2005, they welcomed Marissa (Sissa) into the world. Missy and Sissa were the light of his life.

Dec 29, 2020 CALUMET–Robert “Bob” Ross Harter, 91, a resident of 8th Street in Calumet, passed away on Christmas Day at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium following a short illness. He was born on January 27, 1929, in Calumet, a son of the late Hyacinth (Babe) and Flora Harter. Bob graduated from Sacred Heart High School. On June 25, 1949, he married the former Elizabeth “Bette” Tarvis in St. Johns Church in Calumet and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2015. His early career was working for his father at Harter’s Party Store and the village of Calumet. He then went on to work for the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company. After that he spent a few years working for Clairmont Trucking in Escanaba. Then he left the Copper Country for a short time to work in Oklahoma for Transcon Trucking. He returned to Calumet to take over the Pontiac dealership (Harter Pontiac Buick) which he ran for 33 years.

The Library of Things includes a wide variety of useful, entertaining and unusual objects that patrons may need for a project, cannot afford to purchase, don’t have room to store or may just need to use once or occasionally. FPL aims to save Florida residents the cost of purchasing many such items. Senior citizens and new home owners may find the collection of particular use.   Categories include the Tool Library which includes hand tools (hammer, saw, stud finder, rachets, pliers, stapler, clamps, Allen wrenches, grout floater, voltage tester and many more), power tools (drill, circular saw, sander, etc.) and gardening equipment (pruning saw, spade, shovels, rakes, shears, loppers, bow saw, edger and more.)
