Delhi court dismisses police s plea over 4-day custody of R-Day violence accused Deep Sidhu ANI | Updated: Apr 19, 2021 19:35 IST New Delhi [India], April 19 (ANI): A Delhi court on Monday dismissed the plea of Delhi Police seeking four days custody of actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu, in another Republic Day violence case. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gajender Singh Nagar remanded Sidhu to 14 day- judicial custody. Meanwhile, Deep Sidhu moved his bail application before Delhi Court in the Republic Day violence case. His bail plea will be heard on April 23. Earlier today, the Delhi Police urged the Court to grant four days police custody of Deep Sidhu, in the another Republic Day violence case.

Chief metropolitan magistrate Gajender Singh Nagar also directed that appropriate action may be taken if Sidhu “tried to mislead the investigation by fabricating false evidence”. The order further says, “IO is duty bound to conduct proper investigation in the matter in a fair and impartial manner.He has to bring the true picture before the court. Application stands disposed of accordingly.”

NEW DELHI: Actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu on Friday urged the Delhi Court to preserve the CCTV footage of the Red Fort, which is already with the Investigating Agency and visuals, to show that he did not participate in any act of violence and rather he was helping the police in pacifying the crowd on Republic Day in New Delhi. Appearing for Deep Sidhu, advocate Abhishek Gupta told Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gajender Singh Nagar that the accused applicant is apprehensive that the CCTV footage of Red Fort from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm will not be considered by the Investigating Agency. Sidhu, therefore, sought direction from the Court to preserve the CCTV footage, call and made part of the record so that it would help him to prove his innocence.

NEW DELHI: Police is not supposed to collect evidence only to prove the guilt of the accused but also to bring forth a true picture, a Delhi court said on Friday while directing a probe on the plea by actor-activist Deep Sidhu who claimed he was not an instigator of the Red Fort violence on the Republic Day during farmers tractor parade against the Centre s three new agri laws. The court added however that appropriate action may be taken and relevant sections added to the charges if Sidhu was trying to mislead the investigation by fabricating false evidence. IO (investigating officer) is duty bound to conduct proper investigation in the matter in a fair and impartial manner. He is not supposed to collect the evidence only to prove the guilt of the accused, rather he has to bring the true picture before the court, Chief metropolitan magistrate Gajender Singh Nagar said in his order.
