BHUBANESWAR: Very few might have the idea that Radhanath Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (RIASE) in Cuttack was one of the premier institutes in teachers’ education and was founded in 1868. It is one of the six UNESCO associate institutes in India. Over the years the institute has created thousands of brilliant teachers and educationists. But unfortunately the foremost institute in teachers’ training RIASE is on the verge of closure with the National Council of Teachers’ Education (NCTE) de-recognised BEd (Bachelor in Education) course for the 2021 academic session.
Like RIASE, the NCTE has derecognised13 other government-run teachers’ training institutes in Odisha for one year which used to pass out 1650 BEd students every year. The NCET has derecognised the institutes for violating its guidelines of minimum 16 teaching faculties and proper infrastructure.
