The church caught fire in mid-January, and services currently are being held in the church hall while repairs are being completed. With a year of online services and sitting in vehicles in parking lots, area churches and parishes slowly have been bringing people back to in-person worship. Church leaders have been reaching out to their members and reassuring Valley residents that with proper social-distancing guidelines in place, worship services can be attended safely.

A major new study suggests that young Black people are turning away from the church, and experts say it s because they want to see action where the church is offering only prayer. It s not just about praying, it s about getting to the streets and participating in good trouble, said Tejai Beulah, an assistant professor of history, ethics and Black church and African diaspora studies at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio, located in Delaware.  They re looking for actions.
