Local School Districts to Begin Vaccinations this Week | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writers As Gov. Jim Justice announced that vaccinations of school teachers and staff would begin this week, local county school districts announced their plans to start getting those vaccines to their employees. Both Marshall and Ohio county school districts will start vaccinating employees this week, Marshall County starting today and Ohio County starting Friday. Those vaccination rollouts are part of the state’s plans to return students to in-person learning starting Jan. 19. Marshall County Schools will be distributing vaccines to employees aged 50 and older today at John Marshall High School from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Superintendent Shelby Haines said the district administration was looking forward to getting those vaccines to those employees.

Miller WHEELING Ohio County Schools Superintendent Kim Miller said she is excited at least younger students soon will be returning to their classrooms. West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced Wednesday in-school learning for elementary and middle schools students will resume Jan. 19. High school students, meanwhile, will continue remote learning as long as the county remains “red” on the Department of Health and Human Resources COVID alert map. “I’m happy because I think it is so important our kids are back in school,” Miller said. “We know that it is better for the mental and emotional states, as well as their academic state. I was very happy our kids could go back to school.”

Dec 28, 2020 WHEELING – Ohio County Schools kindergarten registration will begin at 9 a.m. on January 4. Students must be five years old by June 30, 2021 to enroll. Please call your child’s home district school to register. Ohio County Schools Student Service Director Raquel McLeod said kindergarten is one of the most important years in a child’s education. She added that Ohio County Schools has an exceptional kindergarten program. “It is essential because early learning is the most formative,” McLeod said. “Kindergarten builds a strong foundation upon which future learning is dependent. “Our kndergarten teachers are amazing,” she added. “They design interactive learning centers and encourage learning through exploration. Students learn through play and socialization, and our teachers create a fun and exciting learning environment for them.”

WPHS Holiday Music Show To Happen | News, Sports, Jobs

From STAFF REPORTS WHEELING – The holiday show will go on for Wheeling Park High School music students and the public. The students managed to produce a holiday performance despite the difficulties resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohio County Schools announced Monday. The recorded WPHS holiday performance will be shown in its entirety at 7 p.m. on Dec. 24 and 25 on WTRF-TV. The performances will also be shown on the school’s television station, WPHP, and West Liberty University’s Topper Nation. Wheeling Park Co-Choir Director Joyce Jingle said students worked on the music individually at home and through virtual LIVE instruction with their directors.
