Westerville hospital won t release names of officers in shooting

Westerville hospital won’t release names of officers in shooting By Andrew Welsh-Huggins - Associated Press COLUMBUS The names of the hospital officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man in an Ohio emergency room last month won’t be released by a private health system, with officials arguing that that information isn’t subject to the state open records law. Columbus and suburban Westerville police officers, along with security officers from Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, also in Westerville, all had roles in events leading to the April 12 death of Miles Jackson. Both Columbus and St. Ann’s officers fired their weapons.

Atassi errs in attacking Gov DeWine over litter campaign

Atassi errs in attacking Gov. DeWine over litter campaign Updated May 02, 2021; Columnist Leila Atassi’s recent attack on Gov. Mike DeWine for “hypocritically” promoting litter cleanups while not speaking out about coal plant subsidies is unfair (”DeWine throws away a chance to tackle climate change,” April 28). I agree these subsidies are despicable, but DeWine must deal with an insane legislature (which recently cost me a $100 registration fee for driving a hybrid car) who can’t even remove indicted state Rep. Larry Householder from office. This same legislature pressured Ohio Health Director Dr. Amy Acton to leave, and subsequently passed a bill prohibiting the governor from enacting any future health protection orders. DeWine must act cautiously. I admired his leadership during the pandemic immensely and am willing to give him some leeway on this issue.

Officials choose route for Olentangy Trail connector near Clintonville

Columbus Department of Recreation and Parks has chosen a route for an Olentangy Trail connector that includes a crossing on busy West North Broadway near the OhioHealth s David P. Blom Administrative Campus. Some who live in that area or use the trail still think that s dangerous, and would prefer a bridge or underground passage instead of a crosswalk near a busy interchange. You re swapping one dangerous connection for another, said Judy Minister, a former Clintonville area commissioner. Officials wanted to make the trail safer. The existing trail connection between Clinton-Como and Northmoor parks crosses West North Broadway at Milton Avenue, and takes bicyclists, runners and walkers down five streets in Clintonville: Riverside Drive, Delhi Avenue, Milton Avenue, West Kenworth Road and Olentangy Boulevard, a one-mile stretch.
