Atassi errs in attacking Gov. DeWine over litter campaign
Updated May 02, 2021;
Columnist Leila Atassi’s recent attack on Gov. Mike DeWine for “hypocritically” promoting litter cleanups while not speaking out about coal plant subsidies is unfair (”DeWine throws away a chance to tackle climate change,” April 28). I agree these subsidies are despicable, but DeWine must deal with an insane legislature (which recently cost me a $100 registration fee for driving a hybrid car) who can’t even remove indicted state Rep. Larry Householder from office. This same legislature pressured Ohio Health Director Dr. Amy Acton to leave, and subsequently passed a bill prohibiting the governor from enacting any future health protection orders. DeWine must act cautiously. I admired his leadership during the pandemic immensely and am willing to give him some leeway on this issue.
