Despite school districts across the state lifting mask mandates for students and teachers, Metro Nashville Public Schools doesn t have plans to waive the requirement any time soon.
As students attend their final days of school, masks are still required to be worn by all students and staff, district spokesperson Sean Braisted said in an email to The Tennessean Thursday.
And masks will also be required during the district s Promising Scholar summer school program starting in June. We will continue to follow CDC guidance on masks and social-distancing whenever possible, as long as it is deemed to be an essential component to reducing the spread of COVID-19 among students and staff, Braisted said.

RICHMOND, Ind. An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for a father accused of neglecting his then-4-month-old daughter, who was catastrophically injured.
Matthew J. Shaffer, 28, is wanted after his bond was revoked. Shaffer failed to appear at a Superior Court 2 hearing this week about the bond revocation, and Judge Gregory Horn revoked the bond and ordered the arrest warrant.
Shaffer and Casey Renee Miller, 27, are both charged with five counts of neglect of a dependent, one as a Level 1 felony, three as Level 3 felonies and one as a Level 6 felony. The four more serious charges resulted from injuries, including a brain injury, a fractured rib, a broken arm and retinal damage, sustained by their daughter, and the fifth charge is for failing to promptly seek medical care.
