‘Get Out This May’ in Oldham with the Greater Manchester Walking Festival Date published: 26 April 2021 Join in between May 1 - 31 As we emerge from a lockdown restrictions, Oldhamers are being urged to #GetOutThisMay by the Greater Manchester Walking Festival (GM Walking Festival).  No matter whether you’re a stroller, roamer, shuffler, moocher or a marcher the festival has something for everyone, with guides for those new to walking as well as regular striders!  Back for the seventh year, it runs from Saturday 1 - Monday, May 31 during National Walking Month, and offers ideas and inspiration to inspire everyone to get outside and explore towns, cities, the countryside, canals, riversides and parks across Oldham and beyond.

Chadderton man who obtained a bomb-making manual convicted of terror offence. Date published: 24 April 2021 Oliver Bel A man from Chadderton has been found guilty of possessing a bomb-making instruction manual that he purchased on Amazon. Former Cambridge University student, Oliver Bel was convicted of collecting information useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism. 24 year-old Bel faces up to 15 years in prison for having the Anarchist Cookbook at his home in Salford in November 2019. During the trial at Manchester Crown Court, jurors heard how Bel had been in contact with the banned neo-Nazi group National Action, and that Bel advocated  the extermination of Jews in posts to the right-wing web forum Iron March.

Fantastic fund-raiser Steve gears up for Great Norse Run challenge Date published: 23 April 2021 Steve Hill has taken on numerous gruelling challenges right across the world, and now he s off to Iceland Shaw school teacher and fund-raiser extraordinaire Steve Hill has announced details of his next big challenge for 2021 – to conquer ‘the Great Norse Run’. Steve, who has been the Deputy Headteacher at the St Joseph’s primary school for 17 years, has vowed to run nine marathons in nine days across Iceland - the land of fire and ice – for 250 miles from the North to the South of the country. He will be raising money for Team Hill Charitable Trust.
