MP opens applications for ‘virtual’ Working for Your Community Summer School Date published: 01 May 2021 Debbie Abrahams was joined by Bryn Hughes, founder and trustee of the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund, awarding certificates to participants at a former, pre-Covid, summer school Debbie Abrahams, MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, has opened applications for her eighth annual Working for your Community Summer School for 18-24-year-olds. It will take place between July 12-16, 2021 and the school will be ‘virtual’ again this year, unless Covid restrictions allow for some in-person sessions. Ms Abrahams said: “As an MP I receive many requests from young people for some experience of an MP’s office, but unfortunately I can’t accommodate them all.

Oldham council has 10 members of staff who earned £100,000 in total renumeration over the 2019-20 financial year A total of 97 members of council staff across Greater Manchester’s 10 boroughs are being paid more than £100,000 a year. Campaigners The Tax Payers’ Alliance, who are pushing for a low-tax society, has released its annual ‘Town Hall Rich List’ for the 2019-20 financial year – although councils more often than not also list their staff’s pay on their websites. In the list, all of the staff within Greater Manchester’s 10 borough councils who are paid a substantial wage from public money are listed. Funded by the tax payer, each staff member (some named, some not) has their basic salary listed, as well as their expenses claims for the last financial year and any pension contributions.

Two saws were among items discovered during a weapons sweep by police in Werneth Park. Officers patrolled the Oldham park as they continue to take part in Operation Sceptre - a spell of action aimed at combatting knife crime across Greater Manchester. A post on the Oldham Central Facebook page read: The Werneth Neighbourhood Team have been taking part in the Op Sceptre week of action. They visited Werneth Park where they deployed the knife arches and also conducted weapon sweeps in and around the park. They found two saws in some bushes, which have now been removed.
