The parliamentary standing committee meetings and scheduled floral tributes in Parliament’s Central Hall are being cancelled in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Parliamentary standing committees on personnel, public grievances, law and justice and transport, tourism and culture have cancelled their meetings. The move comes after members of Parliament cutting across party lines gave representations to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to cancel such meetings. Control rooms in legislatures, Lok Sabha to act as feedback mechanism, says Lok Sabha Speaker
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday suggested a feedback mechanism to deal with the lapses in the pandemic management, by setting up control rooms at State legislatures and Parliament levels where the lawmakers can report the difficulties that the people are facing to the government.

Shortage of oxygen, medicines, vaccines, and GST dues of states figured in a virtual meeting of states legislative bodies, opposition leaders and parliamentary affairs ministers with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday, sources said.

Remembering the architect of Indian Constitution and Bharat Ratna awardee, Birla said: Ambedkar was the man who contributed his whole life to make the society just and equity whose aim was to develop the country and welfare of the people. He had spent his whole life protecting human rights and human esteem. He also demanded equality and justice for the people.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla tests negative for COVID-19
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Biral on Saturday informed that he has tested negative for coronavirus and conveyed thanks to all his well-wishers.
Taking to Twitter, Om Birla said, My Covid-19 Report is Negative and I am fit and healthy now. I am grateful to all well-wishers from India & abroad for having prayed for my good health. Thank you.
