Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghal, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan also participated were also present there. Meanwhile, the Reference Division of the Lok Sabha Secretariat organized a briefing session on The Factoring Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2020 for MPs in Parliament House today. (ANI)

NEW DELHI: After several days of disruptions, Lok Sabha is likely to function smoothly from Monday after Speaker Om Birla urged leaders of parties to utilise the remaining part of the budget session and complete the scheduled business. Lok Sabha sources said Congress was initially adamant that it will continue with protests over fuel prices and other issues, but changed its stance after being isolated as floor leaders most of the opposition parties, during their meeting with the Speaker, were unanimous that the House should be allowed to function. The first part of the budget session was also marred by disruptions and resumed routine proceedings after defence minister Rajnath Singh made an appeal urging all parties to cooperate. As the remaining part of the session is likely to be curtailed, most of the party leaders assured the Speaker of cooperation so that important bills could be cleared.

Joshi said Modi wanted to make a statement in Lok Sabha on ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ but was not able to do so due to disruptions. The PM will launch the programme from Gujarat on March 12 and also flag off a 21-day ‘Dandi March’ from Sabarmati Ashram. “The PM wants to make a statement in the House but there is no consensus, though the Speaker has given permission.
