UH softball drops fifth straight game, fall to McNeese State

The Houston softball team’s losing skid reached five games after dropping Wednesday night’s game at Cougar Softball Stadium 4-3 to McNeese State.
First inning troubles continued for the Cougars, beginning after the very first batter of the game was hit by a pitch from sophomore starting pitcher Megan Lee. The runner scored during an attempt to steal second base after an errant throw from junior catcher Kati Ray Brown.
The Cowgirls’ momentum continued in the second inning, as they put together four hits to score in two additional runs to increase the lead 3-0.
Caroline Hudson singled today against No. 5 Oklahoma State.
Liberty battled through early struggles at the plate, narrowing the deficit to 7-4 with a four-run sixth before falling 9-4 to No. 5 Oklahoma State in game one a doubleheader, Friday at Cowgirl Stadium. Oklahoma State (19-1) extended its winning streak to seven games, while the Lady Flames (16-6) saw their own seven-game winning streak come to a close.

The Liberty softball team (16-5), receiving eight votes in this week s USA Softball/NFCA Top 25 Poll, will face No. 1 Oklahoma (18-0) and No. 5 Oklahoma State (18-1) twice each at this week s Oklahoma Hall of Fame Classic. The Lady Flames will play a doubleheader at Oklahoma State on Friday, before taking on Kansas City (10-2) and Oklahoma at the Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City on Saturday. Liberty will play at Oklahoma on Sunday.
The Lady Flames went 10-1 on their 11-game homestand which wrapped up with a doubleheader sweep of Longwood on Tuesday. Liberty is currently riding a season-best seven-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 62-14 and outhitting opponents .390-206 during that span.

Clara Luper received her bachelor s degree from Langston University in 1944 and her master s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1951, becoming the first Black graduate student in the OU History program.
