A GIVING Greenockian exchanged party planning for mask-making in a bid to raise funds in memory of her late sister. Valerie McFarlane lost sibling Sandra Mulryan to cancer 10 years ago and ever since she has looked for ways to thank Ardgowan Hospice for the care they provided to her. Usually, the big-hearted 53-year-old would hold a garden party in May for family and friends but due to Covid-19 this year s big bash was cancelled. Instead, the Diodes employee got her sewing machine out to create festive face masks for sale - and her efforts have resulted in a four figure sum being raised for Ardgowan.
== A GREENOCK care home has been ordered to make urgent improvements to its staffing levels and management of residents’ nutrition following a surprise inspection. Kincaid House was graded as weak for its care and support during the Covid-19 pandemic in a report which has been published by the Care Inspectorate. The watchdog found the staffing levels at the Oakfield Terrace establishment were not sufficient to meet people’s needs and said changes needed to be made to ensure residents had good nutrition and were properly hydrated. Inspectors criticised the management of people’s weight and minimising falls, while highlighting that correct hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) was not always evident.
