99th Annual Fireman’s Fair in Osceola Mills 3:45 am We begin with parades and celebrations for Independence Day popping up across our region. The 99th Annual Fireman’s Fair took place in Osceola Mills on Saturday. Fire and EMS Stations from Centre County and the surrounding area sent their Tankers and Trucks to be judged at the event, which was hosted by the Columbia Volunteer Fire Company. After last year’s event was cancelled, the Organization’s Vice President says the support this year made up for it. Trevor Harris, Vice-President of Columbia VFC saying: “With COVID last year, we took a huge hit, crowds weren’t the same, turnouts weren’t the same, but this year, it was an amazing year, everybody came out, everyone wanted to come out and be with their families and support the fire department, and we really loved all the support we get from them.”

Clearfield County Brush Fire 6:25 pm Planes and a dozen fire companies from two counties battled a large brush fire in Clearfield County Tuesday afternoon. Emergency dispatchers say crews were called to the area of Clearfield Street in Cooper Township when the flames started spreading out of control. According to Morris Township Fire Company, who was called to assist Grassflat Fire Company, two air tankers, or planes, were called to drop water on the flames. The planes were called in from the Pennsylvania DCNR Bureau of Forestry who also provided ground crews to help. Fire companies that responded include: Grassflatt, Winburne, Morris Township, Karthus, Chester Hill, Osceola Mills, Philipsburg, Sandy Ridge, Snow Shoe and Milesburg.

Clearfield County man accused of shooting at SUV on Route 22 at Indiana-Westmoreland border

State police arrested a Clearfield County man over the weekend and charged him with shooting at another vehicle along Route 22 near the border of Indiana and Westmoreland counties, state police said. Elijah N. Helmick, 23, of Osceola Mills, was arrested in connection with an incident at 5:39 p.m. Saturday along the westbound lanes of the highway near the Harry Boring Road intersection in West Wheatfield Township. Troopers said Helmick was taken into custody without incident and arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle and possession instruments of crime.
