GOP senators are reviving demands they made in 2011, the last time there was a political standoff over raising the debt limit, but it’s a risky move.
The 2011 debt limit was solved at the last moment, and a subsequent downgrading of the nation’s creditworthiness by S&P triggered a stock market meltdown.
And if the U.S. actually defaults on its debt, which could happen within months, the consequences could be catastrophic.

The 21-year-old who grew up in Vulcan and rugby for County Central High School, is the youngest member of Canada’s women’s rugby 7s team heading to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which take place July 23 to Aug. 8.

At its July 12 meeting, council approved a donation of $1,000 to Wardley for financial support for expenses related to her participation in the Summer Olympics.
Council directed administration to provide a formal letter of support and 100 Town pins to Wardley, and also approved the use of the outdoor screen and recreation department support for community viewing of the Olympic Rugby 7s games, as well as the purchase and placement of support signage.
