Martin, director of operations for American Music Theatre, has seen the formerly thriving business battered by crushing punches from COVID-19, the same as many similar venues have suffered.
With the theater temporarily closed to help fight the spread of the virus, nearly all of AMTâs 40 full-time employees have been laid off, except a handful in the box office who are working part time to answer inquiries from customers.
Not only is no revenue coming in, $1.2 million in ticket refunds have gone out so far. Meanwhile, the costs associated with its 1,600-seat facility on Lincoln Highway East â insurance, real estate taxes, maintenance â continue unabated.

Looking back at our story on trends at the start of 2020 is like looking in a time capsule in some ways, with trends focused largely on development â from new Rutters and Sheetz to the Rock Lititz expansion to projects in Lancaster city â and on education and health care trends that had nothing to do with distance learning or COVID-19. Instead, school start times and student privacy were the burgeoning local stories.
If we learned anything in 2020, itâs that we canât fully predict what will be news in unprecedented times. That said, we have taken a look at some of the trends and events LNP reporters will be covering in 2021. Hereâs our list.

If Messiah University’s public relations students and alumni agree on one thing, it’s that the professionals and opportunities within the realm of public relations stand unrivaled. The skills that public relations students acquire in the classroom quickly make their way into real-life application through on-campus organizations, work study positions, internships and eventually long-term careers. By investing in experiences during their time at Messiah, students majoring in public relations create for themselves a vast array of post-graduation opportunities.
Classes and clubs
The classes necessary for a major in public relations include everything from learning to write creative copy and design graphics to communicating and collaborating with nonprofit organizations. Students begin with several intro-level courses that introduce specific concepts and an overall understanding of public relations. As students progress to upper-level courses, such as Pu
