A health worker administers a dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech Covid-19 vaccine to a pregnant woman at the Clalit Health Services, in Tel Aviv on January 23, 2021(AFP)
Reversing previous guidance, the World Health Organization on Friday said that pregnant women can be vaccinated against COVID-19.
“While pregnancy puts women at higher risk of severe COVID-19, very little data are available to assess vaccine safety in pregnancy,” the agency said.
“Nevertheless, based on what we know about this kind of vaccine, we don’t have any specific reason to believe there will be specific risks that would outweigh the benefits of vaccination for pregnant women,” the international body said.
NCP secures over 950 berth bookings from cruise lines Mike Maura.
Nassau Cruise Port Limited (NCP) has secured more than 950 berth bookings from cruise lines beginning in April, up to the end of the year. In addition, the United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists in its COVID-19 response plan status update, both Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean Group, the two largest cruise ship companies, with a huge majority of their ships’ no sail order response plans green-lighted.
All but one of Royal Caribbean’s ships were green-lighted by the CDC, while all but three of Carnival’s ships have received the same.
The Health Ministry in St Lucia has confirmed a further 57 new cases of COVID-19, taking the country’s case count to 713. All the new cases are St Lucian nationals ranging in age from 11 years to 71 years. They were all assessed and tested for the coronavirus at a community respiratory clinic. There are now 359 active cases in St Lucia, with one case requiring critical care and the others being stable.
Meanwhile, St Lucia is among three countries and territories in the Caribbean for which the United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new travel advisories on Tuesday amidst rising COVID-19 infections. The CDC is urging US citizens to avoid all travel to St Lucia, Barbados and the Turks and Caicos Islands. All three have been placed in the CDC’s level four or “very high” risk category, with the CDC saying travel “may increase your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19.”

The United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) move to require all travelers arriving into the United States from international destinations to provide a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test is a “worrying” impediment to tourism in The Bahamas, Minister of Tourism and Aviation Dionisio D’Aguilar said yesterday.
The National Business Aviation Association – a US-based non-profit organization that represents more than 11,000 companies – announced this week that it expects the new policy to soon be released following meetings with the CDC and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
