Spirits, smokes and sperm

My wife and I have been married for seven years and we have a five-year old son. We want another child and have been trying for four years without any success. I recently went to the doctor and was told told the quality of my sperm wasn t great and just OK. He advised me to stop drinking and quit smoking to enhance my chance of fathering another child. But I am not convinced – if I managed to get my wife pregnant the first time, with equal (or even more) spirits and cigarettes, surely they are not that harmful to my sperm count.

Over 60s at far greater risk of COVID-19 death

The national COVID-19 task force has conducted a study into the COVID-19 mortality risks based on age and comorbidity factors.  According to an analysis by a team of experts in the past five months, COVID-19 patients aged 31 to 45 had 2.4 times the mortality risk of those aged between 19 and 30, while people aged 46 to 59 were 8.5 times more at risk. Task force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito said during a virtual press conference on Tuesday that the mortality risk was 19.5 times higher for COVID-19 patients aged 60 and above. The research, which was published on PLOS One, also shows that COVID-19 patients with pre-existing kidney diseases have a 13.7 times higher mortality risk than patients without kidney diseases.

Eagle County Schools sends out more quarantine notices

At Battle Mountain High School, a staff member’s positive test will send six students and the staff member into quarantine. Red Canyon High School, Battle Mountain High School and Edwards Elementary School are the latest Eagle County Schools to send out quarantine notices following positive COVID-19 cases. Red Canyon High School notified its community Monday after a student tested positive. The positive case was last in school on Thursday, Dec. 10. Nine students will quarantine. Edwards Elementary School also sent communications Monday to families after being notified that a staff member tested positive. The staff member was last in school on Tuesday, Dec. 8. One staff member and no students will quarantine related to this incident.
