Golden boy Patrick is a maths genius in national contest

A Lawn Manor Academy pupil achieved the school’s highest ever score in a nationwide maths challenge, earning a place in the UK’s elite mathematics Olympiad. Patrick Gillen, a Year 7 student, won gold and Best in School in the UK Mathematics Trust’s Junior Mathematical Challenge. He was the first pupil from the school to reach the event.  The modest 12-year-old said: “I enjoy doing maths problems, that’s the way my mind works. I’m looking forward to doing the Olympiad next.” The UK Mathematics Trust gives pupils from Years 7 and 8 high quality mathematical problems to solve. Youngsters who take part in the challenge sit two applied maths papers under exam conditions and have to complete them using mental arithmetic without the assistance of calculators.

Blessed Edward s student Hans is a maths whizz

HANS Atendido has a prestigious summer mathematics school to look forward to HANS Atendido, a year 11 student at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, has been selected to attend one of the prestigious National Mathematics Summer Schools, run by the UK Mathematics Trust for the top performing one per cent of pupils in their Intermediate Maths Challenge, a competition entered by thousands of secondary pupils across the UK and overseas. Hans scored a remarkable 121 marks in the original challenge, only missing out on two questions. He has won Gold certificates in all three years he has participated, and says he is looking forward to the experience.

Le Trieu Anh She is the first Vietnamese student to receive such a big scholarship granted by the school, which is listed as No1 in clinical medicine research in Australia and top 18 globally, according to QS Ranking 2020. Many Vietnamese students have studied at medical schools in Australia but most of them followed a university program before taking exams to study for master s degree.
