The American dream of home ownership will be coming true for a family in Prattville.
Habitat for Humanity in Autauga and Chilton Counties has broken ground on a new home for the Cozadd family. This will be the 46th home the local group has built.
A ceremony was held on Lower Kingston Road where the home is being built.
“We’re ready to get started,” Tom Risher, chairman of organization told Alabama News Network. “All of our volunteers have been waiting for probably four months to start on her house. We love the family. We went through a very long arduous selection process here in Autauga County and chose a great family.”

The final phase of widening and improving U.S. Highway 82 through the city has begun.
The highway is one of Prattville s main thoroughfares. The work will four lane a section of about 2⅓ miles from Highway 14 to U.S. Highway 31. The average daily traffic count in the project area was 10,990 in 2013 compared to 18,893 in 2019, Alabama Department of Transportation figures show figures.
Along with local traffic, Highway 82 is known as University Highway because it is a favored route to Tuscaloosa. Traffic increases during the fall football season as fans travel back and forth for Alabama football games.

The road is also deadly, the scene of many fatal accidents. Such was the case in March when a multi-vehicle accident left three dead. The wreck occurred where a four lane section narrows into a two lane. That two lane section will be widened with the ongoing work.
