Fatal wreck closes Highway 14 west of Prattville

PRATTVILLE Alabama State Troopers on Friday were on the scene of a fatal wreck that has closed a portion of Highway 14, west of Prattville.
Autauga County Joe Sedinger confirmed the road closure near the County Road 3 intersection, west of Bear Creek Swamp.
Assistant Autauga County Coroner Whit Moncrief said that two people died in the wreck. Names were not released pending notification of next of kin. Two people were taken to local hospitals in serious condition, he said. The wreck involved three vehicles.
Sedinger said that the road will be closed for a long period and advised drivers to avoid the section by taking an alternate route.

AUTAUGA COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - Highway 14 at Autauga County 3 is currently blocked off after a fatal crash Friday afternoon.
According to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Cpl. Jeremy Burkett, the crash happened at 2:42 p.m. and involved multiple vehicles.

Alabama broadband grants ‘game changer’ for families, businesses

Gov. Kay Ivey announced nearly $17 million in grants Monday to help expand broadband access in rural Alabama and Sen. Tommy Tuberville said he expects it to make a significant impact.
“Great news for Alabamians across the state,” Tuberville posted on Twitter. “Broadband is critical for all households to participate in the digital economy, remote learning, telemedicine and advances in farming practices.
“These grants will be a game changer for families and rural businesses.”
The announcement from the governor’s office said the 36 grants were the largest amount both financially and by number awarded from the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Fund established by the legislature in 2018.

PRATTVILLE A convicted sex offender was a no-show Monday in Prattville for jury selection in an unrelated case where he faces more than 50 child sex charges.
Gary Wayne George, 57, of the of the 1700 block of County Road 19 North, faces 25 counts of production of obscene matter containing visual depiction of a person younger than 17 and 25 counts of possession of obscene matter containing visual depiction of a person younger than 17, three counts of rape in the second degree, three counts of sodomy and one count of violation of the Sex Offender Notification and Registration Act, court records show. He was not registered at the County Road 19 address, records show.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Underserved communities across Alabama will soon receive broadband services thanks to nearly $17 million approved by Gov. Kay Iveyâs office.
On Tuesday, Iveyâs office awarded 36 grants to multiple broadband providers in primarily rural, unserved areas of the state. The grants are the largest amount and number awarded to date by the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Fund, created by the legislature in 2018.
